Carl P. Kasunic ( was born in Cleveland, Ohio attended local schools in Northeast Ohio and, after graduation from high school, volunteered to serve three years in the U.S. Army. During his military enlistment Carl P. Kasunic served with Bravo Company 1st Bn 75th Infantry, Airborne Ranger Battalion. After his military service Carl completed his BA degree in Political Science at Cleveland State University and Law School at Cleveland Marshall College of Law all while employed full time as a representative for a non-profit organization, the Disabled American Veterans, representing disabled veterans and their dependents before the Veteran’s Administration and Social Security Administration.

Carl P. Kasunic has been in private practice since 1986 is licensed to practice law in all Ohio Courts, in the U.S. Federal District Court Northern District of Ohio and the United States 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. He has prosecuted claims for individuals in municipal, state, federal and state and federal appellate courts. Carl’s emphasis in his practice of law is in representing the disabled in Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income claims before the Department of Health and Human Services (Social Security Administration). He also represents individuals in all civil litigation matters pertaining to personal injury, negligence, disability, probate and family law matters.

Carl  P. Kasunic enjoys membership in the Ohio State and Lake County Bar Associations.  He is also a member of the National Organization Of Social Security Claimant’s Representatives (NOSSCR).  He has been a member of the Lake County Bar Associations Settlement Week and Fee Dispute committees.  In the recent past and for several years he was also a member of the Lake County Bar Associations Grievance Committee. Carl is a member of the United States Army Ranger Association, The 75th Ranger Regiment Association and the Disabled Americans Veterans. In the past, Carl Kasunic served as a Mock Trial Judge in Lake County for the State of Ohio Mock Trial program and also served as legal advisor for six (6) years for the Andrews School Mock Trial Team. He is married and lives with his wife and daughter in Cuyahoga, Ohio.  Carl enjoys golfing, reading and all Cleveland sports teams.

James N. Rainone


James N. Rainone brings to the firm a great attitude, enthusiasm, and relentless effort and determination to solve all clients’ problems.

James N. Rainone joined the Carl P. Kasunic Co., LPA team in 2017 as an associate. He is licensed to practice law in all Ohio Courts, in the U.S. Federal District Court Northern District of Ohio. His practice areas include social security disability, personal injury, domestic relations, and wills and estate planning. He also provides legal advice and counsel on other general legal matters. James takes special pride in helping social security disability applicants as a tribute to a family member, who received social security disability benefits from a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. James strives to help others who are in similar situations.

James N. Rainone was born in northeastern Ohio and grew up in Mentor. He attended Mentor High School where he excelled academically and athletically, playing baseball under Coach Len Taylor. James continued his academic and athletic career at The University of Mount Union, where he graduated Cum Laude and pitched for Mount Union’s baseball team.

James N. Rainone graduated with his Juris Doctorate from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2016, where he was Vice President of the Criminal Law Society, Submissions Editor on Cleveland-Marshall’s Journal of Law and Health, and a two-year peer advisor to the first-year classes. James was awarded for his outstanding commitment to public service by Cleveland-Marshall in 2016 after completing a series of externships and fellowships working with the Office of the Federal Public Defender. He intends to continue this interest in giving back to the community in the future.

James N. Rainone is now a member of the Lake County and Cuyahoga Metropolitan Bar Associations. Additionally, Jim is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and participates in its Young Lawyer’s Division. James is a die-hard Cleveland Indians fan and passionately supports of the City of Cleveland. He takes pride in his involvement with 2016’s “Party at Napoli’s” campaign that helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for children’s cancer research. James is also an avid bowler and golfer, and enjoys spending his free time competing in both sports.


David F. Neilsen


David F. Neilsen ( is originally from Walton Hills, Ohio. He attended Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, graduating in 2005. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in 2009, majoring in both marketing and management. David attended law school at The University of Akron, graduating in 2015, also earning a Certificate in Litigation. During his time in law school he was an active member of the mock trial team, participating in tournaments in Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Since being admitted to the Ohio Bar in November 2015, David has focused mainly on the areas of Social Security Disability and Workers Compensation, representing hundreds of clients. He is licensed to practice law in all Ohio Courts, in the U.S. Federal District Court Northern District of Ohio. In his spare time David enjoys golfing, running, and sporting events.
